Haiti Earthquake Update

A 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit the southern tip of Haiti on Saturday, August 14th. Our partner, Esperance (Hope) Haiti, is located in this area. It is being reported that 30,000 homes were destroyed, over 1,900 people have died, and over 5,700 were injured. Tropical Storm Grace then attacked the region two days later. There have also been two 6.2 magnitude aftershocks and dozens of smaller ones. Esperance Haiti is a Christian microloan program with 2,700 beneficiaries. Preliminary assessments indicate that many from the program have lost their homes, were killed, and were injured. Word & Deed has received requests for help and is responding with emergency aid. Please keep these brothers & sisters in your prayer – “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Ps. 46:1. In Port-au-Prince, where the Adoration Christian Centre is located, they felt the earthquake but damage in the city was minimal.
