Venezuela Earthquakes

UPDATE: FRIDAY, JULY 10, 2026

Over the last couple of weeks, we have been in close contact with our partners in Venezuela, assessing how best we can use our resources to help them. So far, Word & Deed has sent just over $14,000 USD/ $20,000 CAD to three different church groups. A portion of these funds have been used to purchase and distribute 240 hydration kits (each kit includes bottled water, Gatorade, Pedialyte, mixed nuts, protein bars, and energy gummies) to rescue workers who continue to dig through the rubble of collapsed buildings. Incredibly, 11 days after the earthquake this team found a mother and her three children who were still alive in a collapsed building. The mother had kept her children alive by feeding them her breast milk–their survival is nothing short of miraculous. Another of our church partners is housing 35 people and providing them with two meals per day all while traveling into the disaster zone to bring in supplies. Our third church partner is in the process of printing 25,000 gospel pamphlets to be distributed to people in the region.

Please pray for the Lord’s sparing mercies for people who may still be alive in the rubble and for the spiritual and mental health of the many rescue workers who continue to experience traumatic situations on a daily basis.

We expect more needs to arise in the near future as the rescue phase of this disaster winds down and more needs become apparent.

Prayer Update – Venezuela Earthquakes

Two powerful earthquakes (magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5) struck northern Venezuela on June 24, devastating Caracas and the northern coastline. Already facing years of economic hardship and failing infrastructure, the country has suffered widespread building collapses, significant loss of life, and more than 45,000 people remain missing.

Through a church partner, Word & Deed is assisting national and international rescue teams by providing rehydration and nutrition kits, as well as an internet communications centre. Through another network of local churches, we are helping affected member families with essential supplies, including temporary shelter, mattresses, medicine, and food. Please continue to pray for our Venezuelan brothers and sisters and our partners. Donations are gratefully received at www.wordanddeed.org/donate.

UPDATE: FRIDAY, JUNE 26, 2026
Word & Deed is closely monitoring and praying about the impact of the two powerful earthquakes (magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5) that struck northern Venezuela on Wednesday evening, June 24, affecting the capital Caracas and the surrounding region. Venezuela has endured years of economic collapse, government corruption, and failing infrastructure, and these earthquakes have only added to the country’s ongoing challenges.

Word & Deed has church partners in Caracas who have reported that most of their members are safe, although some have experienced significant property damage and economic loss.
Another church partner has a church family located to the north of La Guaira–the area most impacted by the earthquakes. Communication remains limited, and some members have not yet been reached. This weighs heavily on them as more than 600 deaths and over 3,000 injuries have been formally reported so far.
Another church partner is currently travelling to the hardest-hit area with two relief assessment teams and will provide updates as more information becomes available. Although international rescue teams are now arriving, many people remain trapped under collapsed buildings. Many other buildings have been deemed structurally unsafe and so numerous residents are living outside with need for food and water.
Word & Deed is committed to standing alongside our partners and other trusted organizations as they assess the situation, identify the greatest needs, and determine how best to respond. Thank you for your continued prayers for our brothers and sisters in Venezuela.
